Dance Studio Faculty Salary Step Scale

The original business model for a dance studio was one teacher who taught all subjects, levels and ages. The current basic business model is an owner, an office manager, and several teachers (teaching is dependent upon availability). Hiring practices are in general universal, teachers/owners hire former students or friends. Salary schedules vary dependent upon geographical areas. The model presented here is based on a public-school model. Teachers are hired on the basis of education and prior dance teaching experience, dance subject genre they have proven they can teach, and ability to teach a specific age level.

One of the topics covered in our year-round seminars. this topic is introduced and discussed for what should be in a studio dance faculty contract, which includes a sample contract given out at the seminars. What would you include? Public education has specific requirements based on education, number of years at a facility, independent continuing education, and contract renewal. It might be time for studio owners to do the same. This faculty scale format DOES NOT allow for outside competition choreography contractors.

Hourly Steps

Step 1 (TBD per teaching hour, based on what a studio owner decides should be included, and location of studio)

Duties: lesson plans, choreography, classroom management and facility correspondence (signing birthday and get-well cards for the students in their classes), maintaining owner approved class implementation procedures, and basic student discipline.

Steps 2-4 are discussed in full at our Dance Studio By Design Seminars as are hiring outside contractors for choreography. This session includes samples for teacher contracts.

Competition Routine Choreographers, How Are They Paid?

Complete information on this subject is discussed at our seminars including outside choreographers and in-house. Attendees are given handouts and document files for studio use including faculty and outside contractors use.
